Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, MFR, has spent more than three decades in Nigerian public service. This is a concise summary of that record, for readers who want the full shape of it before going deeper into any single chapter.
Local roots, local office first
Born on 3 February 1959 in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, Kaura’s public career began at home: twice elected Executive Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area between 1991 and 1998, a tenure that included founding the Namoda Community Bank as its pioneer chairman.
Federal service before elected federal office
Before reaching the Senate, Kaura served with the National Population Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, federal postings that gave him working experience of national institutions from inside the civil service and diplomatic machinery.
A Senate term built around accountability
Elected to represent Zamfara North in 2015, Kaura served a single Senate term through 2019, chairing the Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs while holding a concurrent seat in the ECOWAS Parliament.
Two federal agencies, back to back
From July 2022 to October 2023, Kaura served as Managing Director and CEO of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, building his tenure around governance, transparency and host-community engagement. On 9 February 2026, he was inaugurated Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority.
A company founded on the same standard
Somewhere across this record, Kaura founded Inland Drills Limited in the mineral belt of the state his career began in, applying the same governance principles, licensed titles, measured geology, community engagement before equipment arrives, to a private company that he had already applied across three decades of public office.
What comes next
Kaura has declared his intention to contest the Zamfara North senatorial seat again in the 2027 general elections, campaigning on jobs and education. Whatever that election’s outcome, the record above, and Inland Drills’ independent operating standing, remain the same.
