Zamfara North is the senatorial district Tijjani Yahaya Kaura represented in the Nigerian Senate from 2015 to 2019, and the seat he has now declared his intention to contest again in the 2027 general elections.
The district behind the seat
Zamfara North covers a swath of the state that includes Kaura Namoda, the town where Kaura was born on 3 February 1959 and where he later served two terms as Executive Chairman of the local government. Representing Zamfara North in the Senate meant representing, in part, the same community he had already governed directly at the local level decades earlier, a rare continuity between local and federal representation.
A constituency inside the mineral belt
Zamfara’s mineral belt, the ground Inland Drills Limited operates in, sits within the wider Zamfara North region. That overlap means the senator representing the district and the founder of a solid minerals operation working inside it are, in Kaura’s case, the same person, giving Zamfara North’s senator an unusually direct, personal stake in how the region’s minerals sector is regulated and how its benefits reach the community.
What a return to the seat would mean
A return to the Senate in 2027 would put Zamfara North’s representative back in a chamber with direct influence over solid minerals regulation, free zone and export policy, and the intergovernmental relationships that determine how quickly federal decisions reach a state like Zamfara. Whatever the outcome of that election, Inland Drills Limited’s operations continue on the footing they were built on: licensed, documented, and independent of who holds any particular office at a given time.
